Brian Schmidt, of Brownsburg, samples a beer from Bloomington Hop Jockeys Homebrewing Club Saturday afternoon, Sept. 19, during the inaugural Whitestown Brew Fest. Schmidt said he heard about the event on social media and it sounded like a good time. “It’s been great so far,” he said. “It’s a perfect day, and there’s a great lineup of breweries.” The event featured 30 breweries as well as 10 homebrewers; Moontown Brewing Company winning the homebrew contest. Whitestown Parks Director Nathan Messer said the event was a huge success with more than 1,000 people attending. “Just from looking at Facebook, Twitter and people commenting, everyone had a lot of great things to say about Whitestown,” he said. “There were a lot of people from out of town that came in and would say that they didn’t know much about Whitestown but now really liked it.” Messer said next year’s event is locked in for September 17. “We’ll start marketing for that soon,” he said. “We’ll have the Indiana Bicentennial going on with that and have that has a tag, so we hope to have a huge event.”
